Excerpt: Islam comes from the root word sa-la-ma, so to do the
words Muslim (one who follows the religion of Islam), and salaam (peace). Sa -
la - ma means peace, security and safety. This security is inherent in the
submission to the One God. You may often hear that Islam means submission but,
as with most Arabic words, there are many levels of meaning. It is not just submission;
it also involves an innate sense of security and peacefulness that is only
attainable when a person is completely surrended to the will of God. He must
also understand that God is the Creator of all that exists or will come to exist,
and has power over all things.
